Who We Are & Our History

Established in 1983 as a community resource centre, the Mabunji Aboriginal Resource Indigenous Corporation has remained true to its founding purpose for over 40 years. We proudly represent the Saltwater and Mainland people across the various town camps and homelands of the Borroloola region. As we have grown, we have continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our members, government policies, and funding conditions.

Our Services & Impact

Today, Mabunji is a financially strong corporation guided by a dedicated and progressive Board of Directors. Over the last two decades, we have grown our net assets to acquire land, construct vital new infrastructure, and invest in sustainable business opportunities. We successfully deliver essential contract services across our three core areas:

  • Aged Care

  • Municipal Services

  • Childcare

Strategic Direction & Vision

Formally incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 as a large corporation, Mabunji is actively planning for tomorrow. Our Board has established a clear strategic direction and investment strategy to ensure a responsible, credible pathway forward—empowering current and future generations of the Saltwater and Mainland people.

For us in Indigenous media, I think that there was pride and joy that we were finally able to create that voice for our people and by our people. It certainly takes a community effort to get there, but once you’ve got it, there is that exhilaration of knowing that here we are now. We have our voice, we have got our place in broadcasting our voice and expressing our views about the richness of our culture and heritage.
